The Golden Chariot: Unveiling splendor of the South

One of the two itineraries offered by the operators of the Golden Chariot is the Splendor of the South. This itinerary also begins its sojourn from Bangalore. You will have to check in at the Taj West End in the afternoon and the train will depart from the station in the evening. Or you have another option available. You can select another itinerary, for which you have to check in at the eco resort, Our Native Village in the late morning and the train will depart from the station in the evening. But before boarding the train, a presentation regarding the journey of the Golden Chariot – Splendor of the South would be given to acquaint you with your journey.

After that, the train will depart from the station for its 1st destination, i.e. Chennai. It will reach Chennai in the early morning on the 2nd day of the sojourn. After having breakfast, you will be taken to the city exploration, which include St. Thomas Church and Art and Sculpture Gallery. In the afternoon, you will disembark for Mamallapuram, where you will explore its various attractions. And in the evening, you have to return back to the train for dinner and to further commence your journey to Pondicherry.

You will reach Pondicherry on the 3rd day and after having breakfast aboard, you will be taken to the city exploration, which include Auroville Ashram and Matrimandir. In the late afternoon, you will be taken to explore French quarters, beach and Pondicherry market. And the dinner will be served to you at the Eco Dune Resort, where you shall also enjoy the cultural tour. After having dinner, you will be taken back to the train to further continue the journey to Thanjavur. After reaching Thanjavur on the 4th day, you will be taken to explore the city after having breakfast onboard. In the late afternoon, you will disembark the train to explore Thanjavur Paintings Factory. After exploring the various attractions of the city, you will return back to the train for overnight stay and to commence the journey to the next destination, Madurai.

You will reach Madurai in the morning on the 5th day of the sojourn. After having breakfast onboard, you will be taken for city exploration and to shop in the markets of Madurai. In the late afternoon, you will enjoy the visit to Poompuhar handicrafts emporium and also the Light and Sound show at Thirumalai Nayakar Museum. After that, you shall enjoy the dinner along with the Folk Art show at The Heritance. Following the dinner, you will return back to the train for overnight stay and to continue the sojourn further to Kanyakumari.

After reaching Kanyakumari on the 6th day of the sojourn, you shall enjoy the breakfast and fun and leisure activities aboard the train. In the afternoon, you will depart to Thiruvananthapuram where you will enjoy the city exploration and fun and leisure activities at Kovalam beach. Thereafter you will have the dinner at The Leela from where you will be taken back to the train for overnight stay.

After spending the whole night aboard, you will depart from Thiruvananthapuram to Alleppy in the early morning on the 7th day of the sojourn. Thereafter, you will have a cruise aboard a luxury houseboat. After having lunch at a backwater resort, you will depart for Kochi. There you will explore the beauty of the city and return back to the train for dinner and overnight stay.

The next day, i.e. the 8th day of your sojourn, will conclude this ethereal voyage crisscrossing some of the most enchanting terrains of South India.
